Study Says Sugar-Free Schools Reduce Obesity Rates- 8/6/2007

Professor Claude Marcus conducted a study that banned sweets, junk food and soda from 10 schools in Sweden and replaced these foods with high-fiber, lower fat, low-carb foods. After four years, obesity prevalence in the schools dropped from 22 percent to 16 percent.

Editor's Note: Hopefully these findings will get wide publicity as we continue to try to change the food environment in schools and elsewhere.  I always tell my patients that the two major reasons we overeat is because the food is there and because we are bored.
